I think the response varies on whether they want to go out with you or not.. or if there's a power imbalance. I've got a friend who dated a bank teller for awhile.. and it all started by his asking if she wanted to go for a coffee after work.... and then I've other friends who've gotten the "where not supposed to go out with customers"... so I say nothing ventured nothing gained.
Oh but you're not allowed to date your RMT. We learned about that the other day.. due to power imbalance.. like coaches can't date athelets and same with doctors and patients etc....
So keep that in mind. ;) Wait.. of course.. if she works in a coffee shop.. asking her if she'd like to go out for coffee afterwards may not be the smartest thing.. of course.. if she's interested in you.. then it could still work.. I think really it ultimately comes down to that... as long as you don't insult her.. the words don't really matter.. it's kinda just a formality...
Start with "hey would you like to.. " and then see what happens.
(I'm a pro at giving out advice from the keyboard... )
Are you addicted to coffee? are you in fact transferring your feelings for coffee upon those who bring you the coffee?.... you may want to look into this behaviour. This means more research... go drink more coffee and spend more time with this girl.. maybe I should come too.. purely as an independent outside observer. You know.. to remain objective and all... I don't drink coffee.. now if there's a yerba mate girl.. or a hot chocolate with bailey's girl.. I could be in trouble.

Why do you always go for the coffee shop girls Trevor? :) I think you should go for it. What's the worst that could happen?

absolutely. do it.
example:
(you) "Hey, do you want to hang out after work some time?"
(her) "Oh, what? Sure. I get off at 2"
(you) "Right. I'll be there."
Then you have coffee. Yum. Or in your case, flavoured ice.
